Bird Feeders from TP Rolls

on January 12, 2012

The last few days have been rainy, but fortunately we have continued to be blanketed by unseasonably warm temperatures. That all changes tonight as winter is predicted to arrive with lows barely making it into the 20s. Yes, I’m still worried about my dear sweet pony but I was able to get a warm blanket on her before the afternoon rain and I’ll be headed back out to make sure she has a new warm blanket put on before the sleet and snow come.  For now, we’re taking care of the other little critters of the world who won’t get blankets tonight.  We’re going to feed the birds!  We found this easy, fun and best of all messy way to do that here at The Moffatt Girls blog.

  • TP or PTowel rolls
  • peanut butter – it’s for the birds, but you know your kid is going to eat half of it so take that into consideration 😉
  • spatula or something to spread the peanut butter
  • bird seed
  • wooden squewers to make perch for the birds

Spread the peanut butter onto the rolls.  If it’s natural PB and you keep it in the fridge it will be helpful to let it sit out for a bit.  This was a new jar so it was easy for Nowie to spread himself.  Sort of.  When he wasn’t eating it.

I helped even things out before letting him roll it in a shallow dish of bird seed.  And yes, he ate that as well.

I poked a couple wooden skewers through each so the birds would have something to perch on.
